Aruba 2046 Reusable Bag Competition

Winning designs announced at TEDxAruba 2016 September 23rd

Competition Description

Currently, the Parliament of Aruba is striving to implement a law banning the use of plastic carrier bags. The environmental impact of plastic bags are significant in that they take hundred of years to degrade in landfill, can damage wildlife especially in the ocean and are a visible contribution to littering. In anticipation of the legislation – which will allow Aruba to further develop as a sustainable island, Green’S’Cool would like to engage the citizens, in creating the design that will be placed on Aruba’s official reusable biodegradable jute shopping bags.

ARUBA 2046 Reusable bag competition

Aruba is ready to join the many other countries around the world that have banned single-use plastic bags. In anticipation of the legislation – which will allow Aruba to further develop as a sustainable island – the Green’S’Cool project is inviting all citizens to create the design that will be placed on Aruba’s official reusable biodegradable jute shopping bags.

How do YOU see Aruba in 2046?

Aruba is celebrating 30 years of Status Aparte. In light of this celebration, we themed our competition based on the next 30 years. We are asking the Aruban population to envision the island in the year 2046 and express this by means of any creative medium such as an illustration (a painting, a picture etc.), with words (a poem, a quote etc.), a sculpture, an artwork made out of recycled material, in sum, any creative expression that can be depicted visually will be accepted. There are four categories and one winner will be selected from each category: Category 1: 6 - 12 years; Category 2: 13 - 21 years; Category 3: 22 - 35 years and Category 4: 36 years and older.

Create, participate and win

Hand in your design by filling out this form and uploading your artwork. The winning designs will be announced during TEDxAruba 2016 to be held on the 23rd of September 2016 at Cas di Cultura. Not a winner? Not to worry: ALL the designs received will be showcased in an exhibition at TEDxAruba. The winning designs will be featured on one of the four official Aruba reusable biodegradable shopping bags. The bags will be distributed among local supermarkets, hotels and smaller stores, where shoppers can purchase the bag along with their groceries and products and continue to use the bag during their next shopping visit.
